ABOUT ME
Hello,
I'm Sharon Hurt!
Sharon W. Hurt has practiced the servant-leadership model for over 40 years serving others, building communities, and bringing people together. As Council Member At-Large for Metropolitan Nashville Davidson County, Sharon represented the entire County and assumed her first term in 2015.
She won her re-election in 2019 receiving the most votes in the general election. In 2023, Sharon was the leading Black Mayoral Candidate for Nashville. Her platforms legislatively have included support for diverse business enterprises, economic development, and public healthcare.
She passed legislation for 25% of the $2.1 Billion Titan Stadium budget to go to small minority, and women-owned businesses. She led the Juneteenth holiday legislation, Community Oversight Board, and renamed Charlotte Avenue to Dr. MLK Jr. Boulevard (ironically where the State Capitol resides).


Sharon currently serves as the executive director for Street Works (SW), a non-profit that serves those affected and impacted by HIV and AIDS, through treatment, prevention, care, and advocacy. The first organization in the State of Tennessee to be certified to establish a Syringe Services Program.
Prior to this role, she concurrently led SW and upheld the mission of the Jefferson Street United Merchants Partnership (J.U.M.P.) – which serves the North Nashville, Jefferson Street business community while growing and improving its imprint on the community at large. Whether it was providing business consulting, affordable housing, workforce development, senior shuttle transportation services, driver’s license restoration or community advocacy, event planning for an annual Jazz and Blues festival for 23 years, Hurt is the consummate leader and visionary.
She also worked for Meharry Medical College for 20 years with progressive ascension to Director of Admissions and Records. With an undergraduate degree from Tennessee State University, along with a graduate degree from Belmont University, Sharon has built a reputation as a leader of, and advocate for, people of all communities. She has also obtained an honorary Doctorate of Christian Humane Letters from The School of Great Commission Theological Seminar as well as, an honorary Doctorate in Humanitarianism from the Global International Alliance.
Sharon has served as National past president of the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials, a past president of the Association of Nonprofit Leaders, Bellevue Exchange Club, Nashville Women's Breakfast Club, and the Nashville Metro Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
She has also served on several boards, is a member of many organizational memberships, including Rotary, Inc., and has received countless awards. She recently started a business consulting group, Hurt & Hurt Enterprises, LLC, focusing on small minority & women-owned businesses. She has been married to Lovie for 41 years and they have 3 adult daughters and 4 grandchildren.
